These were some quick tests to prove out the quadruped system and have animators start to become comfortable animating creatures. There were more plans on facial controls, and various other tricks, but was abandoned relatively early on to focus more on EVE:Online. It was a lot of fun rigging this guy up and incorporating a lot of new techniques for the time.
This was our test wolf creature that I rigged for quadruped testing. Model: Steven Stahlberg, Animation: Olafur Haraldsson
It had a full face rig for snarling, barking, biting, ear movement, tongue controls as well as a physics based tail that could be overridden with animations if the animator wanted more control.
Some of the basic foot controls and the haunches were automatically driven, but could be overridden to add jiggle or correct for any sort of movement.
